Breakfast Keynote
"The Biomedical Future: Ideas vs. Infrastructure"
Michael Joyner, MD is Deputy Director for Research at Mayo Clinic. He is also a coleader of Mayo's Center for Translational Science Activities (CTSA), which focuses on speeding translation of scientific discoveries into treatments and therapies. Dr. Joyner is a Professor of Anesthesiology at Mayo Clinic and is the principal investigator on three NIH research grants. His research focuses on human cardiovascular control, specifically how the peripheral circulation and autonomic reflexes adapt and respond to mental and physical stress.
Dr. Joyner received his medical degree from the University of Arizona in 1987. After completing his residency and a research fellowship at Mayo Clinic, he joined the Mayo staff in 1993. In addition to serving as the director of the CTSA Service Center, Dr. Joyner also leads the effort to integrate information technology across all of Mayo Clinic's research entities, as well as participating in the regulatory and IT initiatives of the national CTSA consortium.
